THE CHARACTER
Character Name: Lukas
Series: Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentina
Canon Point: After their second battle with Berkut.
Character Age: Physically and mentally twenty-four.
Background: His wiki.
Personality:
Lukas was born with a future already decided for him. When discussing his past there's hardly anything humorous with his upbringing: his father pressed the importance of his training to become a knight and his elder brother, who holds the immediate inheritance of his families riches, sending him to the Deliverance. Though the former isn't so much done in hopes that Lukas showcasing his skills and becoming a hero that his brother can flaunt, even though that wouldn't be entirely terrible, so much as it was him viewing that he was a potential threat to his status. And for the most part whenever he reflects on his past Lukas never once sounds bitter despite preferring to have grown up to be a scholar.
Now in terms of family it's obvious that Lukas is not very close to his older brother at all. In fact they are only related by having the same father and, as stated previously, his brother viewed Lukas as a possible threat to his nobility. Lukas understood completely what his brother's objective was when forcing him to enlist in the Deliverance but if asked he would say he doesn't regret having done so; he speaks no ill-will towards his brother despite being fully aware that if he were to die in battle his death would only be confirmation to no longer being a competitor for their family fortune, but states that it saddens him none-the-less.
While he grew up better off in comparison to the poor villagers, Lukas was often referred to as a "backwater noble" due to his family not being particularly well-known among Zofian nobility. More than once did he force himself to take these insults in stride but there still lies a breaking point within him, which was proven when a Duke challenged his authority in front of the other soldiers. At this point Lukas had already proven himself to be a worthy soldier and risen in rank quickly due to his skill and leadership qualities, but uncharacteristically he snapped and defeated the Duke after being called a "backwater buffoon".
It should also be noted that despite his upbringing Lukas doesn't look down on the common people. When he's constantly referred to as "Sir Lukas" by Forsyth he tells him to speak to him casually, admiring both the former and Python as hardworking individuals and believes that no person should go ignored because of their lack of status. Of course this causes him to butt heads with Fernand, who gave him the name as a backwater noble, due to their opposing values and often times swallow down his insults rather than retort back because he knows all too well that he is a man too stubborn to change. And despite being treated poorly Lukas still keeps a certain level of professionalism when faced with Fernand, only ever showing a small hint of rage when he confronts Lukas once more about his backup plan when they had went against opposing forces. A scene that actually showcases more on Lukas' quick thinking and how desperate he is to keep the members of the Deliverance alive: using civilians as hostages.
Lukas was never promised to be knighted and to be honest he never expected it, so while his actions were severely frowned upon a few men and their knightly code he believed it to be the only way his own forces would survive. It was a tactic used when they were pushed to the edge, not even hesitating to face the very head of the army and threaten the lives of the Rigelian people in exchange for their own safety. Though he later admits to Fernand that he shares the mans concerns, he doesn't believe that appearances are the end all product of a movement such as the Deliverance.
With that we can understand that Lukas is a tactical individual who is willing to voice and conduct drastic measures in order to ensure his and his comrades safety, but to say that he is a heartless soldier would be a bit of a reach. During his supports with Python Lukas admits that he feels detached from most feelings, informing him that despite having someone he will surely be wedded to he does not feel saddened by their distance. It is not that he dislikes this woman, but that he simply feels no longing towards her, and it's within this conversation that he believes that he is "broken". Of course further into their talks he realizes that feelings must grow before they manifest and he's still young, and despite referring to Python as unmotivated still takes his advice to heart. It should also be mentioned that when discussing matters with Clive he confesses that he doesn't look positively at that fact that he's often referred to as "cold". It's no lie that Lukas is fairly composed despite the circumstances, but he views this as a flaw more than anything else. He realizes that his professional exterior is often seen as intimidating to most, which he actively works on approving despite having difficulties.
Despite his detachment he still proves to be an honest man, and even if it difficult for him to wholly express himself what he can surface out is ultimately genuine. He's also proven to be almost frighteningly observant, when Forsyth shows a small hint of discomfort over their talk about each other's past he's quick to apologize for causing him to become upset. His desire to protect and care for his comrades comes from the very bottom of his heart, and immediately upon meeting Alm and his friends he proves to be the big brother figure of their group. He holds many responsibilities and carries them proudly on his shoulders, and thus holds his crown as the calm and collected soldier many have grown to respect. Often times directing Alm towards the right direction, putting safety before desires and recklessness... even if the latter is often ignored and he's left to face a band of thieves because Alm can't look away from something he deems unjust. Of course that isn't to say that Lukas isn't the same. When he, Python, and Forsyth are left to defend an outpost by themselves he makes the risky decision that they would rescue their comrades and abandon the outpost. Later he states that the reason for their loss was because of his pride, which shows that Lukas remains humble enough to admit his mistakes despite the fault in their situation not being entirely on him. He owns up to his faults and learns from them, proving that despite his achievements he of course still has much to learn in life.
Powers/Abilities: Lukas is a regular ol' human being for the most part, lacking any powers such as magic. Though it is possible for him to change class and become a mage/magic user, for the sake of simplicity I'll have him stay as his soldier class. He's familiar with weapons such as swords and daggers, but is far more comfortable with a shield and lance; his skills are clearly of a professional. He does hold enough strength within him to destroy armor, apparently, but that also requires much stamina on his part.
Power Nerfs (if applicable): While he doesn't have any notable powers needing nerfed, I'm perfectly content with downing his physical prowess (breaking armor with a single blow) if it goes beyond game rules!
Inventory: The clothes on his back (including armor), a steel lance, and leftover bread... don't ask.
Incentives: Guaranteed safety for members of the Deliverance as well as those in Celica's army, a powerful lance by the name of "Killer Lance", he of course wouldn't be against the idea of earning/learning magic and once he realizes that it is available he'll work hard towards this. And books?? He's such an easy guy... to be honest... teach him how to dougie.
